Preschool Resources/Website Wednesday

Sometimes I try to do constructive learning type activities with my kids...

However with that being said, I know my kids will be the kids
that teachers say in hushed tones, "& their mom is a teacher..."

whatever.

We play a lot around here.

I sew.
AJ plays trains.
Abby plays with plastic food.

I am going to try something new around these parts.

I name everything.
Let's call this Website Wednesday...
with the idea that I attempt to
share & collect preschool resources & ideas every Wednesday...

So...
To begin I thought I would throw together some websites that we use around this house...
focusing on Letters, Sounds, & Reading this week.

Here are some quick games we have been playing lately...

Tightrope Walker:

I just make a letter out of some yarn on the floor & AJ makes the sound the letter makes as he tries to walk across the letter.  I'm all about simple folks.  Nothing too crazy fancy with a lot of prep work.

Musical Letters:

Like musical chairs, but with letters.  Just right the alphabet on cards & cut them up.  Place the letters on the floor in a circle.  Fire up iTunes with some kid music.  When the music stops, AJ must freeze in place & say the name of the letter & sound it makes for the letter he is standing on.  Remove that letter & repeat.

Letter Hide & Go Seek:

I hide as many letters as I want.  AJ goes & finds the letters.  I make him say the name of the & the sound it makes when he brings it to me.  I like this one because I can hide a bunch of letters & AJ is entertained while I can keep sewing...er...doing laundry.

Alphabet Dot-to-Dot:

Write out the alphabet all crazy around a page & AJ connects the letters in the correct order.  Again a fairly independent activity...gotta love it!

Swamp:
Throw pieces of paper...or socks...or if you are me fabric scraps on the floor-call them scary alligators with huge teeth.  At one end of the room throw down some letters...or numbers...or shapes...whatever you are working on.  Have your kiddo rescue the a specific letter from the alligator infested swamp by hopping through the swamp & bringing them back to you without getting eaten by an alligator.  I have AJ say the letter & the sound.  He loves this one.  The kids goes nuts forever with this game.  Its like magic I tell ya!

Share your websites or preschool games and resources here!  This week we are focusing on letters, sounds, & reading!  Every week we try a new concept.  Email me if you have an idea or something you are looking for more ideas about!  Thanks friends!

Really, no pictures of AJ in the swamp?! My heart is broken. What awesome, fun, and intelligent games. You're so creative. You'll come take care of my children right? I would never think of these things.
