Inspired By A Quilt

Remember V's quilt?

Oh that quilt was about the end of this at the time pregnant momma.
I may have said a few mother of pearls through clenched teeth and given that little quilt the bird a couple times in the process of making it...

But I love my lil sistah like crazy, so I pushed through.
I had to make her son a quilt.

And she loves that quilt like crazy.
Smart girl.

So here we are 8 months later, and

V turned one last week.

ONE! She needs to have another one for me soon.
I promise I will make him or her another quilt.

Any way, that little quilt was the catalyst for his fabulous birthday party theme.

Really? A quilt?

I know, but it worked.
Easy, peasy, lemon squeezey.

You just throw that quilt down as a table cloth...
make an appliqued fabric covered canvas...
whip up some coordinating cupcake flags with some toothpicks and double sided tape...

buy a cute mini cake stand at Hobby Lobby for $10...
make a pennant banner with the extra fabric and some ribbon...
hang up some cute baby pictures with mini blue clothes pins...
dress the birthday boy himself in an appliqued ONE shirt...
and party like it was 1999!
(I graduated high school in 1999. Crazy huh?!)

Happy Birthday Vincent from your favorite auntie!

The Host

"Perhaps there could be no joy on this planet without an equal weight of pain
to balance it out on some unknown scale."

I will warn you, that this book has a
s l o w start,
but it is well worth it in the end.

It is sci-fi/romance novel.
It is better than the Twilight series.

I love that at the end of the book Stephanie Meyers lists songs
she associates with different parts of the book.

This one was my favorite of her song picks:

I Should Just Start Calling It Insta Monday

Because if it doesn't happen on Friday, it's probably not
going to happen on Saturday or Sunday either.
It's just not.

life rearranged

Last week I made a tutu for Abby.
She wasn't really all that into it.
6.yards.of.tulle. and she wasn't excited people!
Have you ever sewn with tulle?!
I'll just stop there...
before I start using the caps lock.
And I think maybe that powder on those donuts is really crack instead of sugar.
At least that would explain why I ate the entire box for breakfast one morning.
I did a little applique and fabric covered canvas project for my nephew's first birthday.
I could play it all off tough and macho like, pretending I used that staple gun, but really I cringed and covered my ears
every time Andy pulled the trigger.
I supervised where the staples went.
In the middle of the canvas project Abby freaked out
screaming like a banshee something unintelligible about her sucker.
This is what I saw when I turned around.
Andy's dad's car is in our driveway while his parents are in Mexico.
This is the text I get Tuesday morning.
Like I would really hit anything with the swagger wagon.
Come on now.

We went to an animal museum with some friends last week.
It was crazy fun.
This kid is getting more freckles!
So stinkin' adorable.
AJ said he "just had a little spill."
Little as in red kool-aid splattered across the entire kitchen little.
Did you know that there is a World Nutella Day?
It's February 5 apparently.
Mark your calendars for next year.
Head on over the Plain Chicken for this Nutella Gooey Butter Cookie recipe.
Brody continues to smile and giggle all day long.
Crazy happy kid.
I hopped on a plane to Kansas City last Thursday night...
to visit this sistah...
for this nephew's first birthday!
Andy had all three kids, all by himself, all weekend.

I think he has a new appreciation for his wife.

Keep it real.

I'm going to go attempt to restore the house back to the state it was in last Thursday when I left.
Have I ever mentioned that I hate housework?

InstaFriday!

Friday! Friday! FRIIIIDAAAAYYYY!
Man, this is my favorite day of the week.

It's the day I can stay up as late as I want knowing I can sleep in the next day.
It's the day Andy and I snuggle up on the couch watching movies after the kids go to sleep.
It's so full of that
looking forward to something
kind of excitement that bubbles up inside
and makes you giddy.

Because it's the day before two full days as a whole family!

And it's INSTAFriday!

There's something awesome about how a few simple minutes reading someone's blog can put a smile on your face and brighten your view of the day.

And I always find a new blog on InstaFriday because what you decide to take a picture of with your cell phone is usually something little that made you smile.
And I appreciate people who can enjoy the little things in life.

I smiled this week when Andy walked in the door with these.
And I smiled when I got to wear my favorite Bella mittens.
This fabulous find at the thrift store made me smile.
It's perfect for my sewing room.
It's so bright.
It's like a party made of yarn.
Strawberries cut like hearts in my Love Martini at the Melting Pot made me smile.
Coconut rum and cranberry juice.
Well, hello Love Martini!
And how can s'mores chocolate fondue not make you smile?!
The gift of a poem my grandmother wrote about my mom in 1950 when she was Abby's age from my Aunt Glennie made me smile with tears in my eyes.
Along with this picture of my mom.
Look at those chunky legs and that curly hair!
This kid's smiles and giggles are just darn right contagious!
I'm serious.
He could start an epidemic.
A new tutu for Abby makes me smile.
Well, it will when it is done anyway.
Wandering around a fabric store with my BFF for over 2 hours
AND
taking home new fabric for a funky vintage feel quilt makes me smile.
Like a huge, cheesy, show all my teeth kind of smile.
My messy sewing room did not make me smile...
but the end result after a couple hours decluttering and organizing did!
Seeing my new thrift store find and a happy baby in my clean sewing room made me smile.
And this just me laugh when I saw it hanging up in the hall outside AJ's classroom.
This is how AJ described me at school to his teacher.
Glad to see I'm making a good impression on him.
Bob Ross as a Lego man makes me smile.
I can just hear him say,
"And this little happy tree lives here as content as can be, looking at the lake."
Reading makes me smile.
Although The Host by Stephanie Meyer is kinda hard for me to get into.
I don't know why an alien invasion love story would be hard to get into?

Have a great weekend!
I'm planning on snuggle lovin' some cute kids, laughing with my husband...probably at those said cute kids, making a tutu, reading an alien love story, seeing The Vow, and
HAVING A SLEEP OVER WITH MY BFF...
because I'm 14 at heart.

What are you up to?
