M.I.A.

Sorry for my blog slacking lately.

I have been spending a lot of time at my second home lately.

My other home
that is decorated with desks, pencil shavings, and all things second grade.

Entering hundreds of grades into the computer &
having parent teacher conferences.

I should return to being more present around this blog soon...

I did make time to quilt AJ's entire quilt this week though!

One day...
I might even bind it for him!

Website Wednesday Numbers & Counting

Hello Friends!

Here are some preschool websites I have found for
Numbers & Counting...

http://www.fisher-price.com/us/fun/games/countthescore/default.asp

http://www.storyplace.org/preschool/activities/lunch.asp

http://dotolearn.com/games/howmany/number_5.htm

Here are some ideas for around the house we have fun with around here:

Number of the day or week:

Start the day with 4 pancakes

Search for the #4 in magazines or on signs as we drive places

Gather collections of 4 items (trains, cookies...etc)

Number Workout:

Take turns rolling a die.  Count the dots & do an exercise that number of times as you count.  If you are really adventurous and your kiddo is ready challenge them by using two dice.

Number Tic-Tac-Toe/Bean Bag Toss

Draw a large tic-tac-toe gird on the sidewalk with sidewalk chalk for make a grid with yarn in your living room.  Write a number in each square or put down a number card.

Take turns tossing bean bags and identifying numbers.  Play tic-tac-toe using different color bean bags.

Texture Writing

Fill a cookie sheet with sand...or uncooked rice...or shaving cream...or pudding..

.whatever fun substance you have on hand.

Call out numbers and have your kiddo write it with their fingers.

Candy Math

Use m & m's...or jelly beans...or skittles...

Pass out as many as you think your kiddo can handle.  Count the candy aloud together.  Sort by color.  Count each color.  Talk about how many more red ones there are than blue ones...etc.

Preschool Resources/Website Wednesday

Sometimes I try to do constructive learning type activities with my kids...

However with that being said, I know my kids will be the kids
that teachers say in hushed tones, "& their mom is a teacher..."

whatever.

We play a lot around here.

I sew.
AJ plays trains.
Abby plays with plastic food.

I am going to try something new around these parts.

I name everything.
Let's call this Website Wednesday...
with the idea that I attempt to
share & collect preschool resources & ideas every Wednesday...

So...
To begin I thought I would throw together some websites that we use around this house...
focusing on Letters, Sounds, & Reading this week.

http://www.starfall.com/

http://www.juliasrainbowcorner.com/html/a2z.html

http://www.fisher-price.com/us/fun/games/abc/

http://www.lil-fingers.com/abc/

http://www.fisher-price.com/us/fun/games/abczoo/default.asp

http://www.primarygames.com/theabcgame/start.htm

 http://www.first-school.ws/THEME/alphaletter_p/a.htm

Here are some quick games we have been playing lately...

Tightrope Walker:

I just make a letter out of some yarn on the floor & AJ makes the sound the letter makes as he tries to walk across the letter.  I'm all about simple folks.  Nothing too crazy fancy with a lot of prep work.

Musical Letters:

Like musical chairs, but with letters.  Just right the alphabet on cards & cut them up.  Place the letters on the floor in a circle.  Fire up iTunes with some kid music.  When the music stops, AJ must freeze in place & say the name of the letter & sound it makes for the letter he is standing on.  Remove that letter & repeat.

Letter Hide & Go Seek:

I hide as many letters as I want.  AJ goes & finds the letters.  I make him say the name of the & the sound it makes when he brings it to me.  I like this one because I can hide a bunch of letters & AJ is entertained while I can keep sewing...er...doing laundry.

Alphabet Dot-to-Dot:

Write out the alphabet all crazy around a page & AJ connects the letters in the correct order.  Again a fairly independent activity...gotta love it!

Swamp:
Throw pieces of paper...or socks...or if you are me fabric scraps on the floor-call them scary alligators with huge teeth.  At one end of the room throw down some letters...or numbers...or shapes...whatever you are working on.  Have your kiddo rescue the a specific letter from the alligator infested swamp by hopping through the swamp & bringing them back to you without getting eaten by an alligator.  I have AJ say the letter & the sound.  He loves this one.  The kids goes nuts forever with this game.  Its like magic I tell ya!

Share your websites or preschool games and resources here!  This week we are focusing on letters, sounds, & reading!  Every week we try a new concept.  Email me if you have an idea or something you are looking for more ideas about!  Thanks friends!

Mommy & Me Monday

Mommy and Me Monday at Really, Are You Serious?
Hosted by Krystyn

We took our picture in Photo Booth this week...

As I went to upload our picture,
I discovered that AJ had experimented with Photo Booth on his own later that day...

nice...

& yes that is a rain gauge on his head...

& he may have worn his PJ's all day Saturday...

Nothing wrong with that.
