Recipes, Scones, & A New Level of Stress

I love collecting new recipes, but we used to just toss them in a drawer.  It was always a challenge to find that one special recipe you were looking for when you needed it...

So, with inspiration from my mother-in-law, many sheet protectors, a three-ring binder and about 30 minutes...we now have a new custom cookbook with all of our favorite recipes!
I also made these A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Orange Chocolate Chip scones this weekend from Baked Perfection.  Check her out for this and many more great recipes!  Andy, the scone hater, even enjoyed them!
And lastly...the new level of stress in my life: Potty Training...need I say more?  If you have ever potty trained you know what I am going through.  Pray for me the strength to make it through this new unknown territory of parenting.  I thought I was prepared...I read books, watched a DVD, read on-line, bought all the potty training paraphernalia...but nothing prepares you for endless hours of potty songs, negotiating with a stubborn two and half year old to sit on the potty and a wet floor after just sitting on the potty for twenty minutes...how do you teach a toddler what it feels like when you need to go...does it get anymore abstract than that?  I do have to say thank goodness for the Thomas obsession...as the Thomas big boy underwear have been AJ's biggest source of motivation in this adventure.  Although it broke my heart Friday when AJ painfully said with sadness in his voice, "I sorry Thomas...all wet."  Really...I went from holding my breathe in frustration to broken hearted in seconds and just wanted to throw in the towel.  I digress...and I wasn't even going to start on this subject...

LOVE the plastic on the recipes - it's kept me from splattering everything and anything on my recipe cards!

Don't worry about Mr. AJ - I'm sure he will eventually enjoy the potty. I've heard boys like to play target practice with floating Fruit Loops (or some colorful cereal)...

I have not experienced potty training as a parent, but have as a teacher. It looks like you have a lot of resources at home. Keep up with it - he will use the potty when he is ready. At school, I just encourage my parents to send them in their big boy underwear. This has been my best strategy. Also, using targets (cheerios), sticker charts, and the potty book with the button that has the flushing noise.

Keep up the good work!! You have a lot going on in your world with a month old and a 2 1/2 year old.

I will call you up in a couple of years to see how you managed to get your 2 1/2 year old boy to potty train! I will definitely need the help!

I can't wait to try the scones. I hope they're appropriate for the yoga crowd. You know how some of them of all natural organic health nuts. I'm sure AJ will come around. Once he gets used to an idea, he's all about doing it. You're doing a great job. Kisses!

I can share with you that our pediatrician told me years ago that potty training is all about our little ones having control over whether they want to potty in the stool or in their undies. It is one of those times in their lives that they are in charge and will do it when they are ready. Hang in there!

Many dog owners would opt to breed their dogs so that they can get puppies. This ability to act instinctively rather than in some contrived fashion is soothing and helps to defuse stress. But, their intelligence can make them problematic, too.
